Somaia Ramish: A Story of Resilience and Unyielding

Sunday 16th November at 4pm CET

Somaia Ramish is a poet and human rights activist whose work bridges art and resistance. Founder of Baamdaad – House of Poetry in Exile, she advocates for freedom of expression and stands as a powerful voice for Afghan women and artists in exile.

Her story is a testament to loss, forced departure, rebuilding, and unyielding strength. It is the story of a life shaped by exile and deprivation since childhood, a life interrupted, again and again, by war, discrimination, and displacement.
Her story is also the story of Afghan women, whose struggle is etched into both their nature and their fate. Through words and poetry, through the act of expression itself, Somaia fights for a more humane world. She believes in the transformative power of language, and for her, poetry is a force of connection, a bridge between human hearts beyond all boundaries. Although the fall of Afghanistan took everything from her, and she witnessed collapse in its truest form, she rose again from the ashes. Today, she continues to speak, to create, and to stand as a voice of resilience and hope.
