Dalal Al-Taji was born in Lebanon to Palestinian parents. When she became an orphan, she was adopted by Jean Calder, an Australian with a PhD in physical education, who was working in Lebanon for the Palestinian Red Crescent. Dalal lived in Egypt from 1984 to 1995, and after the Oslo Accords were signed, Jean took her and two other Palestinian orphans whom she had also adopted, to Gaza, where Dalal lived until a few months ago.
A lecturer at the University College linked to the Palestine Red Crescent Society, Dalal lived through 17 months of genocide in Gaza as a disabled person – she is blind. She has now relocated to Melbourne, Australia. Dalal will share her unique story, and bring us into the day to day life of disabled persons under genocide.
