How do our identities take shape?
In telling her story, Rebecca will reflect on how her ancestral roots, spanning the Caribbean and West Africa, and her life’s journey, raised by the people and lands of several continents, have influenced the lenses through which she sees the world. These experiences of travelling in both body and mind, shape how she moves through daily life, relationships, and her work as an urban researcher, planner, and designer in the Netherlands, especially in understanding the often invisible systems of caste, privilege, and power she’s encountered while growing older (and hopefully wiser!). Just like her foremothers and forefathers, she endeavours to make space to simply be, in curiosity, strength and kindness.
